General Information
Bordering Switzerland and its ski resorts, Haut-Jura provides a wide variety of landscapes well suited for many types of ski activities such as downhill, cross-country, surf and mono skiing as well as ice-skating on frozen lakes, wind surfing on snow, ski jumping and paragliding.
Four villages: Les Rousses, Prémanon, Lamoura and Bois-d'Amont, together with smaller villages such as Bellefontaine, Morbier and Longchaumois, form this beautiful and popular resort area. Morez is the nearest large town.
Thanks to outstanding snowfall all winter long, these resorts offer first-rate skiing. Les Rousses has some 220 km (138 miles) of marked trails with different levels. There is even night time cross-country skiing on three lighted trails. Maps of the trails are available at the time of purchase of the "buttons" (fare for using the trails). The famous trail of Transjurassienne, the longest French cross-country skiing race, and the "Grande Traversee du Jura", a cross-country trail stretching out over 400 km (260 miles) through the Jura mountains, cross this resort.
The Franco-Swiss area, comprising 4 massifs with 42 km (26 miles) of well maintained slopes and 38 ski lifts used by downhill skiers, is made up of The Dole in Switzerland (1,680 m elevation), the Noirmont, the Serra and Tuffes mountains. It provides different skill level slopes with 21 green (lowest level), 11 blue, 14 red and 3 black (highest level) slopes. Skibus vehicles provide a fast and practical connection between the different villages and ski lifts.
The "Ecole de ski francais" (French ski school) offers classes in the various ski activities such as cross-country, skating, downhill, ski surfing...
